Septic Systems Repairs and Maintenance

Is your septic system old and failing? Perhaps it's been too long between pump outs and the sludge has accumulated in the tank? Septic systems can last for decades if they are maintained properly.

To keep your system working effectively septic tanks need to be professionally pumped out every 3-5 years. However, if you have a high water demand on your property you might need to do it more often, every 1-2 years. Pumping out the sludge (solid matter) is necessary as the accumulation of solid waste can cause the septic system to fail. Complete septic failure can be costly and messy to repair.

Whether you need septic system repairs or a maintenance check, get in contact with our team today and we would be happy to schedule a service.

An important part of a septic tank, and often the main cause of future issues, is the septic or absorption trench. When you mention septic trenches, most plumbers still think of the old slotted 90mm pipe and that is what you will most likely be quoted on when you ask for a septic tank system. In some situations, these trenches work fine and will have a good long lifespan. However, in our experience, if they are not installed in the correct situation they can be a nightmare. The original couple of hundred dollars that you have saved on installation can end up costing you thousands when you have to dig up and replace the trenches.

The main problems with slotted pipe for septic trenches are:

  1. Roots As you can imagine the effluent that is travelling through this slotted pipe is great food for roots and with the slots in the pipe, the roots can quickly take hold as there is nothing keeping them out of the pipe. Because of the slots even if you get a drain cleaner, they will just come straight back.
  2. Crushing The slotted 90mm pipes have a very thin wall and can be crushed under the ground.
  3. Dirt Due to the small diameter and the slots in the pipe if dirt falls through it may fill the pipe and block it up once again once this process starts it is very hard to stop.
  4. A buildup of septic waste the calcification that occurs in a septic tank can also block up these types of trenches as it sits in the pipe and hardens.

At Express, unless stated otherwise on a septic tank installation plan, or an alternative preference is indicated by a customer, we will always install the 450mm jumbo trench. Because we do these jobs every day we can install these often at a cheaper price than our competitors even when they use the cheaper alternative.

Why not check us out for yourself, we can offer you some free advice over the phone or come out and inspect your trenches to come up with the best plan to fix your septic tank problem properly.
